Born Mahmud in Tillo in 1761, a scholar and poet who in his youth studied grammar, tafsir, hadith and fiqh under Erzurumlu İbrahim Hakkı, who gave him the epithet 'Memduh' (the praised). He is said to have composed a divan of some 47,000 couplets.
