Sheikh Muhammad Murad al-Bukhari was born in Samarkand in 1050/1640 into a sayyid family. He is the principal figure who carried the Mujaddidi branch of the Naqshbandi order into Ottoman lands, having received it from the khalifas of Muhammad Ma'sum, son of Imam Rabbani.
