Zaynab bint Khuzayma, of the Banu Hilal ibn Amir, was called 'Umm al-Masakin' (Mother of the Poor) even before Islam for feeding and caring for the destitute. After losing her husband (at Badr or Uhud) the Prophet married her in 3 or 4 AH. Known for her generosity and compassion, her marriage to the Prophet lasted only a few months. She is the only one of the Mothers of the Believers, after Khadija, to die during the Prophet's lifetime. She died in Medina in 4 AH (625 CE), at about thirty years of age. The Prophet himself led her funeral prayer and buried her in Jannat al-Baqi, making her one of the first of the Mothers of the Believers to be interred there. Her grave, like the others in Baqi, is unmarked.
