Son-in-law and chief successor of Baha al-Din Naqshband; after his master's death he received the allegiance of the disciples, including Muhammad Parsa, becoming the next link of the Naqshbandi chain. Settling in the Chaghaniyan region in the 1390s, he spread the order beyond Bukhara and appointed ten successors before his death. He died on 20 Rajab 802 AH (1400 CE); his grave is held to be at the 'Shaykh Attar Wali' shrine in today's Denov (Surxondaryo, Uzbekistan) — the TDV encyclopedia records the burial place as 'the village of Chaghaniyan'; as no second cross-verified numeric source for the location exists, no pin is given.
