A central figure of the Walisongo; of Champa origin, he founded an important Islamic school in the Ampel quarter of Surabaya. He is regarded as teacher or kin to most of the other saints and was influential in founding the Sultanate of Demak. He died 886/1481. (Sources: Wikipedia; NU Online.)
