Bilâl-i Habeşî (Bilal ibn Rabah), of Abyssinian origin, was the muezzin of the Prophet. The structure southwest of the Grand Mosque in Tarsus is a MAKAM based on the tradition that he gave the call to prayer here; since his grave is held to be in Damascus, this is a symbolic shrine.
