Said Ota complex (Khanka) — shrine attributed to Sayyid Ata

Checked by an editor
A shrine attributed to Sayyid Ata: Iranica, citing Soviet sources, writes that a 'cult' of Sayyid Ata survives in Khanqah (Khanka) in southern Khwarazm, where some inhabitants claim descent from him; the same source records that Sayyid Ata was buried at Baqirghan.

Differing Scholarly Views

Whether the Khanka complex is a grave or a commemorative/lineage centre is unclear. Sources: Iranica ATĀʾĪYA ORDER states that Sayyid Ata was buried at the tomb of Hakim Ata in Baqirghan and mentions Khanka only as the place where, according to Soviet sources, a 'cult' survives among inhabitants claiming his descent; the 'Said ota complex' entry in the Uzbek heritage register could not be confirmed by an academic source. The atlas records the Khanka site as an attributed shrine, not a grave, and passes no judgement.
