A shrine attributed to Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani: according to Iranica the mazar at Saygus, southeast of Urgut, is connected in local lore with the activities of Pir Ghawth al-A'zam Abd al-Qadir Jilani; according to DİA al-Jilani died in Baghdad, where his tomb stands.
Differing Scholarly Views
The site's link with al-Jilani is local tradition only; the sources opened contain nothing about al-Jilani coming to Central Asia. Sources: Iranica URGUT explicitly qualifies the link as 'in local lore'; DİA ABDÜLKĀDİR-i GEYLÂNÎ (Uludağ) states that he died in Baghdad and that his descendants returned to 'Baghdad, where the tomb of their ancestor stands'. The atlas records the site as an attributed shrine, not a grave, and passes no judgement.
