According to UNESCO 5500, the Shaykh Mukhtar-Vali complex lies in the Ostona settlement of the Khiva region within the extensive cemetery that formed around the venerated mausoleum; architectural-archaeological research dates the complex to the beginning of the 14th century and legends present him as the founder of Ostona and a contemporary of Pahlavan Mahmud.
