Teungku Chik Muhammad Pante Kulu (b. 1836) was among Aceh's great ulama and poet-scholars, author of the celebrated Hikayat Prang Sabi (Epic of the Holy War). After studying the Qur'an and religious sciences, he trained at Dayah Tiro under Teungku Chik Muhammad Amin, then studied four years in Mecca, earning the title Sheikh. On his voyage home from Jeddah he composed the Hikayat Prang Sabi, a spiritual epic that kindled the spirit of jihad against Dutch colonialism. His grave lies in Lam Leuot village, Aceh Besar, and is visited.
