The founding spiritual guide of the Arwasi lineage, son of Sayyid Qasim al-Baghdadi who migrated to Anatolia after Hulagu's conquest of Baghdad. He founded the village of Arvas (DoÄanyayla) in the Bahçesaray (MĂŒkĂŒs) district of Van, building a madrasa, lodge, library and mosque, and shaped the spiritual map of the region. His exact death date is unknown (c. 14th-15th century). His grave is in the Arvas village cemetery; by tradition no tomb structure could be built over it and it is visited as a grave/maqam.
