In the Şıh Maksut quarter of Şanlıurfa, Sheikh Mas'ud is buried in the basement of a four-iwan Seljuk-medrese-plan lodge; sources describe him as a scholar-Sufi linked to Ahmad Yasawi who came from Nishapur and founded a lodge in 12th-century Urfa. A nearby cistern inscription records the structure as built in AH 579 (1183 CE) by 'Mas'ud son of Sa'id of Nishapur'; it is among the oldest dated shrines in the city.
