Sarı Saltuk was a semi-legendary alperen dervish who played a major role in the spread of Islam in the Balkans and died around 1297-1298. A teqe with a cave and shrine on Sarisalltik mountain near Krujë is attributed to him and is a major Bektashi pilgrimage site. However, according to the Saltukname multiple maqams are attributed to him (Babadag/Romania, Blagaj/Bosnia, Kaliakra/Bulgaria, İznik); the Krujë site is one of these and is regarded as a symbolic maqam rather than a confirmed grave, and its location is disputed.
