In İmam Bakır village about 3 km northeast of Harran stands a square, domed shrine attributed to Abu Ja'far Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, fifth of the Twelve Imams, with an adjoining mosque. This is a maqam (not a confirmed grave, a visitation tradition) — tradition holds that a finger of the Imam was buried here and the village took his name; al-Baqir's actual grave is in Medina.
