Güvenç Abdal, a dervish of Hacı Bektaş Velî, settled in the 13th century in Taşlıca village of Kürtün, Gümüşhane, founded a lodge and Islamized the Black Sea Çepni people. The tomb holding his body is at the Hacıbektaş (Nevşehir) complex; however a makam attributed to him, visited locally, stands at the Güvende highland in Kürtün.
