Datuk Patimang (real name Sulaiman, styled Khatib Sulung) was one of the three preachers who came from Minangkabau to South Sulawesi in the early 17th century. Specialising in theology (tawhid), he spread Islam especially in the Kingdom of Luwu and was central to the conversion of the Luwu court. Together with his companions Datuk ri Bandang and Datuk ri Tiro he laid the foundations of Islam in South Sulawesi. His tomb is in the village of Pattimang, Malangke district, North Luwu (Luwu Utara); its seven-tiered roof symbolises the high status he held in life, and the grave is a place of pilgrimage.
