Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (Amir-i Kabir, Shah-e-Hamadan) was a great Persian scholar, Sufi, poet and preceptor who founded the Hamadaniyya branch of the Kubrawiya order. During twenty years of travel he journeyed through Turkestan, Transoxiana, India, Iraq, Syria and Anatolia; in 774/1372 he came to Kashmir with hundreds of followers and played a decisive role in the spread of Islam and Islamic culture there. He died near Kunar (Kabrusvar) and was buried in the city of Kulob, Khatlan, Tajikistan.
