Al-Tan'im lies about 8 km from Mecca and is the nearest point outside the boundary of the Haram (the hill), which makes it the miqat from which those inside Mecca enter ihram for umrah. During the Farewell Pilgrimage, Aisha was unable to perform umrah because of menstruation, so the Prophet sent her brother Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr to take her to al-Tan'im, where she entered ihram and performed her umrah; for this reason the mosque is known as Masjid Aisha. The present mosque is spacious and provides ihram and ablution facilities for those performing umrah.
Visiting Etiquette
Before entering ihram one performs ghusl or wudu and wears clean ihram garments, then makes the intention and recites the talbiyah to begin umrah, observing calm and proper conduct inside the mosque.
