The only Walisongo member who was both saint and state-founder, establishing the sultanates of Cirebon and Banten and consolidating Islam in West Java through political power. He linked maternally to the Pajajaran line and paternally to an Arab (Hadhrami) lineage. He died c. 976/1568; his tomb is at Gunung Sembung.
