One of Algeria's greatest scholars and exegetes, famed for his Maliki tafsir 'al-Jawahir al-Hisan,' and regarded as the patron saint of Algiers. He founded his zawiya in the Casbah in 1460; upon his death in 1471 he was buried there, with a mausoleum built over his grave. (Sources: TDV; Wikipedia.)
