One of the ten companions promised Paradise and a maternal relative of the Prophet, among the earliest converts; he commanded at al-Qadisiyyah and governed Kufa. Hui Muslim tradition holds he led an embassy to the Tang court in 651 CE, bringing Islam to China and dying in Guangzhou.
