A large mosque in Mina built at the spot where the Prophet Muhammad pitched his tent and led the congregation in prayer during the Farewell Pilgrimage; it is the largest mosque in Mina, located near the small (sughra) jamrah. It is called 'al-Khayf' because it was built on the raised flat ground (khayf) above the valley's watercourse. According to tradition, seventy prophets including Moses prayed at its site; today it holds about 25,000 worshippers and operates during the hajj season.
Visiting Etiquette
Praying and supplicating in the mosque is considered meritorious; note the timing of your visit as it may be closed outside hajj. Enter in a state of ablution and with proper etiquette.
