Seydina Limamou Laye founded the Layene order among the Lebou people of Senegal, proclaiming himself the Mahdi in 1884. He died on the night of 14 Shawwal 1328 (1909) and was buried at Yoff (Dakar), on the seaside Diamalaye ground. His white mausoleum is part of the Layene mosque-and-mausoleum complex.
