Halime Hatun Kümbet

A kümbet (domed mausoleum) standing within the Gevaş (Seljuk / Turkish-Islamic) cemetery on the south-eastern shore of Lake Van. According to Ercan Çalış's study, the Gevaş Islamic cemetery — which contains the Halime Hatun Kümbet — is, with its headstones and sarcophagi, the largest Islamic cemetery in Anatolia after the Seljuk Meydan cemetery of Ahlat ("Türk İslam Mezar Geleneğinde Gevaş Mezarlığı", Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences, Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, 2023). Restoration work has been carried out in the cemetery in recent years (Motif Akademi Halk Bilimi Dergisi, 2024). The Lake Van basin is an important region for the architecture of the Turkish-Islamic period; Erciş, Van, Gevaş, Tatvan, Ahlat and Adilcevaz on the lake shore have been major centres from the Urartian period to the present (Ayşegül Bekmez, "Women's Tombs around Lake Van", 2023).

COORDINATES: the deviation between the Kültür Envanteri record and the OpenStreetMap record is 2 metres → the ADR-024 criterion of "two independent numeric sources" is met and the pin has been placed.
