A great Sufi born in Fez, Morocco (596/1200), founder of the Badawiyya (Ahmadiyya) order. He grew up around Mecca and settled in Tanta in 1236. Perhaps the most popular saint in Egypt, his annual mawlid draws huge crowds. His tomb lies inside the large mosque in central Tanta.
