Evliyâ Çelebi's ten-volume account of the Ottoman lands he travelled between 1640 and 1682, stage by stage. It records the shrines, tombs, lodges, fortresses and popular lore of each town through a traveller's eye, exaggeration and legend included. The atlas treats it as a "17th-century testimony", not as confirmation.
