The first Persian Muslim and a celebrated Companion, famed for proposing the trench at the Battle of the Ditch and honored with 'Salman is one of us, the People of the House.' Governor of al-Mada'in under Umar, he died there in 35-36/656; his shrine is at Salman Pak south of Baghdad.
