A great Sufi master who spread Islam among the Turks of Central Asia through his Turkish 'Hikmet' poems and founded the Yasawi order; known as 'Pir of Turkistan'. The monumental complex Timur built over his tomb is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Sources: TDV; UNESCO WHC 1103.)
