Muslihuddîn Tavîl is among the Ottoman scholars and saints. He was born in Küre, in the district of Kastamonu; the year of his birth is unknown, and he passed away in the early sixteenth century. After studying the rational and transmitted sciences under the scholars of his time, he turned to Sufism. Becoming a student of Shaykh İlâhî, he received spiritual blessing (fayd) from him and attained high stations on the path of Sufism. He sent a letter to Sultan Bayezid II, admonishing him concerning oppression and innovations (bidʿa). According to what is related in the sources, in a recollection conveyed in Taşköprüzâde's work the Shaqāʾiq, it is recounted that the imposing appearance of Muslihuddîn Tavîl left a lasting impression upon a person who had seen him in childhood. After his death he was buried in Bursa, beside the grave of Shaykh Tâceddîn Efendi.
