As-Sajadah Mosque lies about 900 metres north of the Prophet's Mosque on Abu Dharr Street. One building carries three names: al-Sajdah (prostration), al-Shukr (thanksgiving) and, popularly, the Mosque of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari. Tradition (related from Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf) holds that the Prophet performed an exceptionally long prostration of gratitude (sajdat al-shukr) here when Jibril conveyed glad tidings of God's mercy upon those who send blessings (salawat) upon him. The structure was renovated in 2000. COORDINATE CAUTION: the coordinate published by English/Arabic Wikipedia lies about 580 m northwest of the actual building and is erroneous (the two Wikipedias share a single Wikidata source and are not independent); the correct location is from OpenStreetMap and Ziyarago. The prostration-of-gratitude attribution rests on tradition.
Visiting Etiquette
An active mosque; voluntary prayers may be offered. Modest dress, quiet conduct and ablution are expected. As the prostration-of-gratitude attribution is traditional, avoid excessive veneration.
