The Mosque of Al-Mustarah lies about 2.5 km north of the Prophet's Mosque on the road to Mount Uhud, on Sayyid al-Shuhada' Street, and is the same building as the Bani Harithah Mosque (about 491 m², one dome, one minaret). The name 'Mustarah' (place of rest) comes from a tradition that the Prophet rested here when returning from the Battle of Uhud or when visiting the graves of the Uhud martyrs; some narrations say he also prayed here. IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: al-Fadikh, al-Shaykhayn and Bani Harithah (= al-Mustarah) are separate buildings that popular sources conflate. The resting-after-Uhud episode is widely reported, while the 'prayed here' attribution is traditional. The structure was later repaired and renovated.
Visiting Etiquette
An active mosque; voluntary prayers may be offered, and it is commonly visited together with Uhud. Modest dress, quiet conduct and ablution are expected. Do not confuse it with the al-Fadikh and al-Shaykhayn mosques.
