بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ
iḳra' bismi rabbike-lleẕî ḫaleḳ.
Recite in the name of your Lord who created -
خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
ḫaleḳa-l'insâne min `alaḳ.
Created man from a clinging substance.
ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ
iḳra' verabbüke-l'ekram.
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -
ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ
elleẕî `alleme bilḳalem.
Who taught by the pen -
عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
`alleme-l'insâne mâ lem ya`lem.
Taught man that which he knew not.
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ
kellâ inne-l'insâne leyaṭgâ.
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ
er raâhü-stagnâ.
Because he sees himself self-sufficient.
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ
inne ilâ rabbike-rruc`â.
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ
era'eyte-lleẕî yenhâ.
Have you seen the one who forbids
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
`abden iẕâ ṣallâ.
A servant when he prays?
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
era'eyte in kâne `ale-lhüdâ.
Have you seen if he is upon guidance
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ
ev emera bittaḳvâ.
Or enjoins righteousness?
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
era'eyte in keẕẕebe vetevellâ.
Have you seen if he denies and turns away -
أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
elem ya`lem bienne-llâhe yerâ.
Does he not know that Allah sees?
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
kellâ leil lem yentehi lenesfe`am binnâṣiyeh.
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock -
نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ
nâṣiyetin kâẕibetin ḫâṭieh.
A lying, sinning forelock.
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
felyed`u nâdiyeh.
Then let him call his associates;
سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
sened`u-zzebâniyeh.
We will call the angels of Hell.
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
kellâ. lâ tüṭi`hü vescüd vaḳterib.
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
